Achieving Safety With A Burglar Alarm

Years ago, home burglar alarms were only found with rich homes.  These days however, the prices have dropped and they are becoming more common with homes of average folk.  A lot of people who invest in burglar systems go for the do it yourself systems.  They can be wired or wireless, setting off an alarm when an intruder attempts to break in or when they are moving around inside of your house.

With home burglar alarms, there are two types - open and closed circuit.  Open circuit systems work by setting off an alarm when the circuit closes.  When a window or a door is opened, the circuit is immediately completed and the alarm goes off.  Closed circuit systems work the opposite way.  When a window or door is opened, the circuit is broken - also setting off the alarm.

Another, more sophisticated option, are motion sensors.  Motion sensors sense any type of motion within a certain radius to the sensor.  Once it has sensed any motion, it sends a signal out to the control panel that will analyze it and see if the movement is considered suspicious.  If the movement is indeed considered suspicious, it will react to the way you have it set up and inform the proper authorities or sound the alarm.
Motion sensors can also be adjusted as well.  You can adjust them for things such as pets walking around or any other activity that is common with your home that wouldn’t signify a burglary taking place. Motion sensor alarms are very common these days, and one of the best ways to keep your home safe from a burglar - and give you peace of mind in knowing that you are protected.

Normally, it’s a good idea to use motion sensors and magnetic switches with your burglar alarm setup.  Magnetic switches will protect doors and windows while the motion sensors will help to protect larger rooms, such as living rooms and hallways.  The combination of the two is never a bad idea - and will go a long way in protecting your home.

Another available option that you have is a security camera.  Video cameras are also common these days, and can be mounted in very strategic areas throughout the parameter of your home.  They will pick up images in the area they are mounted, which will be displayed on the monitor.  You can also record the video to a videotape as well, making it an ideal choice for anyone who wants to keep track of the information that the camera picks up.

You can also get a burglar system from a home security company as well.  Most companies monitor their systems remotely, and always have someone in the office to look after the system.  Once the alarm is set off, the company will immediately inform the local police or send their own security personnel out to your home.  This way, night or day, no matter where you go, your home will always be protected.

Investing in a burglary system of any type is always a smart investment.  You have several different to choose from, depending on your needs.  If you’ve been worried about your home and the things you keep inside your home, you should invest in a burglary system.  They will help you keep peace of mind, and know that you are protected.  They don’t cost that much either, which makes them an even better investment.  If you own a home - you shouldn’t hesitate to invest in a burglary system.

CCTV Camera Monitoring

Correctly used camera monitoring can deter criminal activity and enhance the safety of the public but just as any method it is not a miracle cure that works everywhere and all the time.

In many countries these days CCTV monitoring is used more and more to deter criminal activity as well as nuisance disturbances of neighbours and neighbourhoods. The reason for this is mainly because there is a bigger demand for safety and security monitoring but also the advancement in technology has enabled people and communities to use CCTV as a safety measure.

But before you implement a security system with CCTV cameras there are many aspects you need to take into consideration, on one hand you have the expectation that the CCTV system will increase the safety and minimise crime, but on the other hand some people argue that the use of CCTV system are intruding on people's privacy and private lifes. To minimise the risk of purchasing a system that is not suitable, it is imperative to learn about the CCTV systems functions.
The effect a CCTV System can have is that amongst other things criminal activity can be stopped due to the criminal noticing the CCTV system but also the crimes that have been committed can be investigated and hopefully a rightful conviction can follow. What many newspapers, journalists and 'people in the know' are talking about the most is the way it makes people feel safer and the fact that it can deter crime. The scientific aspect of the arguments are that the CCTV system can deter criminals in action and in some cases it can make people feel safeer. But as many other methods in life this is not one that will work all the time and not every where. It can stop some criminals, but all and it can make some people feel safer, but again not all.

You can never say that installing a CCTV System will keep you and your property safe, however there are measures you can take to minimise the crime you are likely to be effected by.
You should analyse the situation and issues you are experiencing, prior to having any system installed, ensure your reason for having a system installed is reasonable, affordable and will make a difference to you. You need to think about not only where to place the camera(s) but also what would you need the camera for and what would you do with the footage should you have such a system installed.

If your home or business is located in a high crime area, then you most likely will have a higher 'return' of having your system installed, ie you will see a lot less criminal activity than if you were located in a low criminal activity area. Saying that the effect your CCTV system can have even in a low risk area can still deter criminals. But there are things to think about when you have the system installed, to ensure you get the best possible effect out of your system. You need to ensure that the entire area you would like to cover is covered, ie you may need more than one camera. If the area you need to cover is external areas, you may even have to ensure nature is not in the way of your camera system, cut down any bushes or trees that are going to be in the way of getting the best possible footage.

Another useful piece of equipment to have installed along your CCTV system is additional lighting, for exampe motion detection flood lights are great, the footage will be of a better quality the more light it gets.
According to studies CCTV systems are most effective on planned crimes such as burglaries, theft and vandalism. When it comes to unplanned crimes, mainly due to the criminal being under the influence of alcohol, it seem to have much less effect. In simple terms this means that CCTV systems can deter criminals who have set out to burgle, vandalies or steal, but on people who had a bit too much to drink and carry out a criminal activity it does not have much affect. In effect it has an impact when the criminal have the opportunity to think if the activity they are carrying out is worth possibly getting caught on camera for.

There are also studies that suggest that the less experienced criminal is more likely to stop the criminal activity than a more experienced criminal. A more experienced criminal will not be deterred by just any CCTV system they will need to know that they could get caught in the action or by being identified on camera footage to deter them from carrying out the criminal activity.

It is also essential that the CCTV signage is there, the more the public is aware of the CCTV system being in place the better. Many premises with CCTV systems in place are still not advertising the system enough. Let everyone know you have the cameras installed and that you are not afraid to use the footage! A simple way of doing this is by having many CCTV signs.
The ideal situation you would have a few cameras installed, to cover all areas you could possibly have problems in. Also prove that you do record footage and give the footage to police as and when it would be necessary.
But most of all, what would increase the use and understanding of CCTV systems would be a more affordable price for any home and business. We at Secure London feel very strongly about the security of the public and to improve the life of all and do our upmost to live up to our own expectations.

Keypad and Lock Installation

Magnetic Locks

While the smart and shear maglocks are extremely advanced the standard maglocks have not changed very much over the past 20 years. This consistency has allowed manufacturers to focus on such things as lowering power consumption while providing higher holding forces. A standard type magnetic lock offers advantages over mechanical hardware:

* Long lasting performance (no moving parts)
* Silent operation
* Low installation costs (compared to smart maglocks and shear maglocks)
* Wide variety of mounting configurations (offset strike, inswing, outswing)

Video and Audio Door Entry Installation

Office & Apartment Door Entry System Installations

Secure London's highly qualified engineers can carry out any type of Door Entry Installation and Access Control installation. We have carried out a wide variety of installations for Office buildings, blocks of flats and apartment buildings. The installations have included Video and Audio Door Entry Systems with Access Control.

Our engineers will carry out a site survey to enable us to send an accurate quotation; this includes checking existing cabling (should there already be a system in place). Our quotations are free of charge and there is of course no obligation to proceed once you have received your quote.

Residential Video and Audio Door Entry Installations

Many of our clients want to ensure they feel secure and safe in their home, therefore having a Video Door Entry system installed gives you the advantage to see who is at the door without opening the door.

This gives you that extra feel of safety in your home especially if you have young children. It is also often installed for elderly relatives who have mobility problems; we can install a Video Door Entry System with Key Lock Release to enable them to let people into their home safely without having the strain of going to the door themselves.

Childcare & Nursery Door Installations

Security for children in Childrens Nurseries/Centres is a primary concern which makes Door Entry Systems a vital part of the Nursery's set up. It is paramount for the staff to be able to view who is at the door to ensure only permitted adults are let into their premises. We have installed various types of Door Entry, Access Control and CCTV systems for the Child Care Centres in England.

Our engineers ensure they leave the premises neat and tidy, any disruption of normal activity of our clients to a minimum and are always happy to answer any questions. It is an essential part of our installations to show our clients how our systems work to ensure they are comfortable using it once our engineers has left the site.

LOCK RELEASE FOR ENTRANCE

While the smart and shear maglocks are extremely advanced the standard maglocks have not changed very much over the past 20 years. This consistency has allowed manufacturers to focus on such things as lowering power consumption while providing higher holding forces. A standard type magnetic lock offers advantages over mechanical hardware:

* Long lasting performance (no moving parts)
* Silent operation

CCTV Monitoring in Hospitals

That hospitals have CCTV Systems in place is no secret and I am sure everyone notices the cameras and CCTV Signs, especially upon arrival at a hospital car park. There are obvious reasons why hospitals require a great number of CCTV cameras and even people monitoring the movements in and around their hospital. A hospital should be a safe environment where patients can feel at home while being treated. But unfortunately this also means there are a lot of criminals and opportunists who are looking to take advantage of vulnerable people. Many people have their pockets or handbags picked.  There is also a great number of people who are behaving in a threatening manner and staff at hospital can be put at risk, not that the CCTV cameras help them in that moment but it can deter some people and the people who still carry out their action can be caught using the CCTV footage.

Car parks are well known areas where theft and vandalising takes place so monitoring these areas by CCTV systems make people feel that little bit safer. Most of the time car parks in general are very dark, not well lit and they are not always manned, which can make you feel quite unsafe, especially at night time. This is even the case in many hospital car parks, they are often dark and at the side of the hospital which means there is little people walking around. You often see large CCTV camera housings in car parks, not only to keep the camera safe and vandal proof, but as they are so obvious it does also deter some criminals from vandalising or stealing. Other large public areas within the hospital such as a canteen / cafe is also a potential high risk crime area. Monitoring these areas with CCTV cameras makes staff, patients and visitors feel that little bit safer. The car parks could also be improved with better lighting and if they are manned that the security cards/parking wardens walk around the car park more frequently.

But there’s another use of CCTV Camera Systems within a hospital other than trying to catch a criminal in action.

The first time I became aware of how useful a CCTV Camera could be within a hospital department was when my father was treated for cancer. When I first found out my father had cancer, it came as a big chock it is completely true that you never think something like this will happen to yourself or your family. Luckily although you never know with cancer, it was not life threatening but still as my father is not that young anymore it has its risks having operations and treatment. It has taken its toll but I am very fortunate to say that he is still alive and kicking!
My father first had to have an operation to remove the tumour. Once he had recovered from the operation, he had to undergo further treatment.  Amongst other things he had to have some chemotherapy.
The way he described it being done was that he was taken into a secure department within the hospital, in this department they had a room with one wall that was mainly glass panels so the staff outside could easily see into the room.
Once inside and treatment had begun, he was not allowed out of the room for 24 hours. The reason for this was because of the high level of radiation. It could be harmful to anybody entering the room, so he only was ‘let’ out again once the levels had dropped. While he was in this treatment room the nurses were monitoring him using a CCTV camera system. The camera was set up inside of the treatment room and the nurses were watching his every move in a room opposite the treatment room.
This meant that not only the nurses who looked after my father was safe from radiation but they could watch his every move carefully and still carry out other vital duties.
Luckily my father has recovered well and is free of cancer and hopefully he stays well, it was horrible finding out about his illness and it makes you realise how precious life is.
I have since this experience had the pleasure of taking part in the process of getting such a CCTV system installed in various hospital departments.  There are also people who set up similar systems in their homes to monitor for example people who suffers from epilepsy. People with severe epilepsy need constant monitoring in case they have a severe fit. Unfortunately many people with severe degree of epilepsy have to be monitored by family or hosThis can be a great help of assisting family and staff that somebody is watching to ensure the patient is safe.
In my personal opinion I believe these types of CCTV camera systems are life savers. There are so many areas within treatment departments a system like this can be used to a great benefit for both staff and patients. I have always been a great believer of CCTV and security systems, my motto is ‘if you are doing no wrong, why mind being watched’. But after my fathers experience I also understand the importance of being able to monitor patients securely and privately.

Video Door Entry System - Why have one installed?

Why are so many people these days purchasing and installing Video Door Entry systems? Especially with recent events in mind I believe the Security in your home and for your Business is on everybody's mind day and night.

Most people have at some point had the experience of surprise when somebody knocks on your door. Who could that be? It could be that it is early morning or late at night, do you really want to answer the door not knowing who is at the other side. You may be alone at your home or have young children with you. Or you simply may not be appropriately dressed to open the door!

What ever the reason, the simple solution would be to have a Video Door Entry System installed. You could then quickly have a look who is at your front door before deciding to open. Should you not be sure of who is there or what they want, you can simply pick up the handset and talk to the person outside.

For some people it may also be suitable to have a door release installed which enables you to open the door from the handset of the video door entry, rather than having to go to the door itself and open it up. This could be very convenient for elderly people, people with disabilities which prevents them from freely move around, or maybe the front door is down a flight of stairs which could be difficult and time consuming to climb up and down.

Even for many business premises there are great advantages of having a Video Door Entry fitted. For example many offices are located on the first floor, maybe above a shop or another business premises. To avoid having people freely walking through the door and into your office, to minimize any security risk, you could fit a Video Door Entry which people would have to ring in order to gain access. In this scenario it would also be very convenient with a door release avoiding having staff running up and down the stairs to open up for your clients.

It could also be for businesses such as Children's Nurseries that there is a higher security risk than other types of businesses, the staff must ensure the person they let into their premises are an authorised person to pick up a child. They could prevent any unnecessary arguments by confronting the person via the Video Door Entry rather than face to face.

Other areas where more and more Video Door Entry systems are used, along with CCTV systems, are shops with high value goods, such as jewellery shops. They could buzz people into their premises after being able to view them via the Door Entry System. Naturally this is a help only and cannot entirely prevent criminal activities to happen. But it is also a preventative method, the person who stands at the Video Door Entry knows they have been seen and could later be recognised should any criminal activity take place, such as theft or damage of goods/property.

CCTV Installations in Schools and Colleges!

CCTV Systems are required in most public places and more and more advanced technology is used in Schools, Colleges and Universities. The installation of CCTV systems needs to be done around the classes that are carried out and keep the disruption to a minimum.

Access Control & Access Control Installation

In today’s society all business are recommended to have security systems installed, this can be CCTV Systems, Door Entry and Access Control Systems.
Before you purchase any particular type of Access Control System, you need to think about what areas you need to prioritise and what is of most importance to you and your business.
From the control of a single internal door through to a fully computerised, multi-site network of control points, you can have your Access Control System customised to suit your specific needs.

You can control most standard types of internal and external electronic and magnetic door releases and devices, including barriers making full use of location points, whether in full view or hidden out of sight.

Operated by contactless smart cards or key fobs, or biometrics, you will have full control over who is allowed access through any controlled point at any time of any day, placing it at the forefront of security solutions.

You can also have an adapted and extended system with extra time and attendance clocks and access control kit quickly, easily, and without complication.
Which System To Choose
If you need to control the access of one or many independent doors in a building, the Standalone Access Control System can be used. You gain access by using a PIN with a keypad or by a proximity or magnetic token. The way you gain access will depend upon which keypad you have chosen. When having this type of system installed, you will have to program each door individually, which includes if a token needs to be barred or the code needs to be changed, this has to be done on each individual door in the building.
However you could also chose a PC Based Access Control System, this allows you to control one or many doors in a building over a network via a PC.
Access through each door can be gained by using a PIN with a keypad, proximity or magnetic token or by possession with hands free tokens. How you can gain access depends upon which type of keypad you have chosen for your system.
The PC Based System offers you the control from a PC over the network which means you can change access of a token immediately. The command is sent to all doors in the building. You can also set up different types of access levels for individuals or groups of users.
Another great benefit with these types of systems are that you can create reports of the access gained in the building, ie you can see who went where and when.

Biometrics is an Access Control system technique of studying the physical characteristics of a person such as your fingerprint, hand geometry, eye structure or voice pattern.

Biometric methods of identification work by measuring unique human characteristics as a way to provide irrefutable proof of identity, for example, finger or iris scanning or dynamic signature verification.

For the effective "two-factor" security authorisation of an individual to a Tensor time and attendance or access control or fingerprint recognition is used in conjunction with a smart card.

There’s a selection of smart cards available on the market that can operate your Access Control System.

A very popular smart card is the Paxton Net2. It is approximately the same size as a standard credit card, and is thin and flexible enough to be carried in your wallet.

Renowned for being robust, an Access Control smart card can be read in under ¼ second even if it is covered in oil and grease.

The P09 is a high security fingerprint reader that plugs into the USB port of a PC. It's small design and stand-alone "plug & play" ability makes it an ideal peripheral for laptop or PC security; controlling access to computers or to PC networks.

The fingerprint reader increases security while reducing the number of passwords you require. With the simple touch of a finger you can access confidential information on your PC or Network.

The choices are many and it is worth spending time thinking about which system you would chose for your business, taking help of Access Control Installers is highly recommended as they would be able to assist you making teh correct choise for your particular set up.

CCTV Installation in Schools and Colleges

We have carried out a vast amount of installations of various types of CCTV installations for Schools and Colleges. We have together with the School / College designed their specific CCTV system to meet their needs and budget.
It has been installations of budget systems up to highly complex CCTV and Access Control systems.

Our engineers' works together with the School or College to fit in the installation around the classes and ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. All sites are kept neat and tidy and clients are shown in depth how to use the systems before our engineers leaves the site.

Security at Children's Nursery

Security at Children's Nursery is of paramount importance not only to parents but to staff/child minders alike. There are many ways of improving security and CCTV systems are a great tool when enhancing the security of your property or business.

Children's nurseries around the UK are very security conscious and need every help they can get to ensure their nursery is as secure as possible. Parents/carers want to see all types of security systems in place at their child's nursery. This can be a major part of the decision of which nursery you will choose for your child.

External CCTV Cameras can be used for the entrance and outside areas of the nursery. Most nurseries have a garden area where the children can play when weather allows, this area would also be covered by the external CCTV Cameras. They can either be body shaped type cameras or dome cameras. There are many options of cameras to install, but I would recommend you install the weather proof and vandal proof cameras to minimize any potential issues.

The internal areas would be covered ideally by colour or day / night dome cameras. They are fairly discrete but record the necessary areas if positioned correctly. You would need to think about if you would need to record anything in darkness, then you would have to chose the day/night cameras. If the property is left in darkness overnight it would be recommended to install the day/night cameras in case of a break in or damage of property. Then this would be recorded onto your CCTV system as well.

You can set your cameras to record continuously or on motion detection, ie the system only records when there is movement in front of cameras. To save space and minimize unnecessary recording during night time, motion detection is in most cases the preferred option.

If the nursery requires an even more discrete camera set up, you can use covert cameras, for example in fire alarms and as PIR cameras. It may be in certain areas of the nursery that these type of cameras would be useful. However it is crucial you follow all rules and regulations in regards to CCTV recordings, signage etc, it is vital you display the correct signage so people are aware of the fact that they may/will be recorded once entering the premises.

It is also possible to have audio and in certain areas of the nursery this may be of an advantage to management.
Some Children's Nurseries have got the CCTV system networked and allow the parents/carers of the children at their nursery to view footage online. They would get logon details and they could then log onto the nurseries CCTV System to have a look at their child at any time of their convenience. This can be done over the internet using an IP address or you could purchase an address of your choice which the parents/carers could use. This would for example be the name of the nursery to make it easier for people to remember the address rather than having to remember an IP address.

Throughout the UK the need for more secure and robust CCTV systems for all types of businesses are increasing rapidly. I believe the Children's Nurseries must implement CCTV system along with the possibility of Access Control and Video Door Entry system.
